Press Conference Tuesday July 19, 2005
with Members of the Congressional Internet Caucusand Members of the European Parliament
U.S. and E.U. Internet Caucuses Intensify Transatlantic
Dialogue on Internet Policies and Digital Economy
WHAT: Members of the European Internet Foundation (the European counterpart to the Congressional Internet Caucus) met with Members of Congress and government officials to discuss regulatory and legislative issues relating to the Internet and the international digital economy. A joint press conference was held, in Room 1302 of the Longworth House Office Building, to introduce and explore some of the major issues that were addressed in these bilateral meetings. Meetings included discussions between Members of the Congressional Internet Caucus, Members of the European Parliament, and key officials from the Federal Trade Commission, Federal Communications Commission, Department of Justice, Department of Commerce and State Department. The discussions highlighted issues related to data protection, intellectual property rights, spyware and spam, Internet governance and telecom industry regulation, as well as such broader issues as free trade, transatlantic regulation and international cooperation. The Internet Caucus Advisory Committee also hosted a reception to honor international dialogue, immediately following the press conference.
WHO: Congressional Internet Caucus Co-Chairs, Congressmen Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) and Rick Boucher (D-VA) and European Internet Foundation Co-Chairman, Erica Mann and James Elles, were joined by Members of both the Congressional Internet Caucus and the European Parliament.

The Internet Caucus Reception immediately followed the press conference in Longworth House Office Building, Room 1300 -- Press Welcome. The reception was hosted in cooperation with the Transatlantic Policy Network, the European Internet Foundation and the Internet Caucus Advisory Committee. Cocktails and hors d' oeuvres were served.
